 Sunday Morning Co-Ops

I just want to get the feelings of our associate base on the Sunday morning co-ops. Personally, I think they work great at Northern Plains, and have been a huge fan of them. But, I really don't like what I've seen in the two years at Mid-Atlantic. Schools clearly leave on Saturday to drive home in Lancaster. Many of the advisors I spoke to just didn't want to wait around another day. I know it's only been 2 years, but I've formed a pretty strong opinion.

On a side note, I am appreciative we choose the letters in advance though.

I'm a fan of Sat. night co-op. The showcases from Saturday are still fresh in their minds, and both associates & delegates are tired from the long conference and want to get home on Sunday, so a morning co-op just doesn't work as well....my 2 pennies of course!

I think the Sunday morning co-op sucks in Mid Atlantic. Everyone in that region just wants to get home as do we.

I wonder if Jeff or someone could get the figures of the last few years and look at the # of new forms done on Sunday morning versus new forms done on Saturday night at previous co-ops. I personally talked to a lot of schools that just bolted when things were done Saturday evening or before the last marketplace. Others even stayed over to party on Saturday night, and left first thing in the morning before co-op started.

In general though, I think we need to find a way to attract more schools to co-op. They are meant for business, but the problem is that they aren't fun. What about agents offering incentives for schools booking at co-op? Discounts (not the $100 off CR discount crap), but something that is specifically tied to a school's participation in booking at the co-op? I wonder what we can come up with.

How about "FREE BEER!!!" J/K Maybe NACA can buy something i.e. iPod, cash giveaway, or some big incentive to get the schools there, and for every co-op form they fill out, their name goes in a hat to win "said" prize. The more business they do, the better shot at winning? Just a thought? I know, 2 posts in one week....I'm done now.

I think offering a monetary discount for contracting at the final co-op would be a great idea. And only have the discount available at the final co-op.

:'(

That's Kate crying over offering discounts. no, I just wanted to put a face on my message

See, I normally just put a SOLID LINE through any discounts. I just haven't offered them since my first year in NACA (stupid newbee - ha!). But if I knew that it would get more schools to book on-site at the co-op (especially the final one) then I would reconsider. Most of the final co-ops are fine. I'm really just concerned about Mid-Atlantic which has moved to this Sunday morning thing, and I can tell that it's been hugely impacted. Again, I know it's only 2 years, but the word is that there is no intention of changing it back to Saturday night. Mid-Atlantic is the largest regional, and now we've impacted the final co-op dramatically with this change. I hope the Mid-Atlantic chairs sit down and reconsider.

Insert Chuck's line: What about free horse-and-buggy rides on Sunday morning for each block? Or a sing-a-long with "Magic Chair" and Kelly Taylor. (this should ultimately encourage a 3rd post from Chuck)

Do I want to know...? Ultimately, anything that makes co-op buyers feel more important/special or gives them a chance for personal gain can only help. I know one thing we talked about trying that could be universally applied is that we will only consider intern candidates from schools that participate in co-op. Perhaps in addition to drawing for some prizes, there could be an intern/job posting event for like 15-30 minutes at the end of final co-op. Schools must be registered for Co-op and have filled out a minimum of 3 forms to participate. Schools may view it as unfair in some way, but frankly, I will always favor candidates from good co-op schools as a reasonable indicator of their general preparedness. As for prizes, you see how crazy they go for tshirts etc. from stage...those of us with any kind of give aways could hold some back to give to do periodic drawings from the actual co-op forms and run give aways throughout the co-op process to make it more exciting. If we all make a fuss about Co-op prizes and mini-job fair, word will get around.
That said, I think that Sunday co-ops wouldn't work anywhere except NPL. Sounds like a clear consensus that MAT needs to switch back.

Can we take a poll of what agents favor this Mid-Atlantic Sunday morning co-op? I'd like to find out anyone that does support the idea, and why. I don't yet see one thing that can convince me. According to all that I've asked in a "decision-making" role, it's here to stay, though. Why ???

New to the forum...here's my 2 cents.

I like Sat night coop meetings, even though everyone is tired, we can wrap up biz so we can all go home on Sunday morning.

Many schools are requesting state tables near the Marketplace so they can meet other schools and discuss acts or take another school into the marketplace to listen or watch a video.
The problem is when do they have time and where to work on CO-OP except in the meeting and then they are told to be quiet.

So, even though the discussion at last Mid-Atlantic was that... "Sundays are here to stay," there is still a chance to go back to the old format?

Jeff - I'd be really interested to see the statistics based on past years. And, to do some sort of an active survey with both associates and school advisors/buyers about which they prefer. I'm going to be honest in saying that I haven't heard from more than a handful of folks that supported Sunday mornings. Maybe you know otherwise?

I can tell you that members of the Mid Atlantic RLT and Conference Committee are more than willing to go back to Saturday night final Co-Op Meetings.

However, no decision will be made until after the new Co-Op Coordinator is selected.

Again, I think it really comes down to doing research. Let's not just pick what's easier or "test it" because it worked elsewhere. We need to start doing "information-based decision-making" but asking the schools and asking THE ASSOCIATES which they prefer (and feel is more productive to the business process). Right now, I haven't seen a bunch of hands go up for Sunday mornings at Mid-Atlantic. In fact, have we seen one hand yet? Anyone like Sunday's better the last 2 years?
